57 years old

Date of Birth: 20 Mar 1962

I started sailing in dinghys in 1982 and since then have owned several small sailing and motor boats which I have sailed extensively around my home waters of the the Isles of Scilly. Over the last 20 years aboard my own boats I have made many passages to Newlyn and Falmouth as well longer cruises taking in the south coast, channel islands, Brittany, Ireland and Wales. I have also  crewed on delivery trips from the east coast to the Isles of Scilly. My own journey of boat ownership has seen me buy older boats in need of lots of TLC which in turn has taught me just about everything there is to know about maintaining, repairing and completely refitting small yachts and motorboats. I sail mostly single-handed and as such maintain my boats to a high standard. I much prefer remote anchorages to marinas but safety comes first and prolonged poor weather normally sees me succombe to the marina. I have never crossed an ocean and prefer the navigational challenges of coastal sailing. I will often sail overnight if  the weather window demands it and have made single handed passages of up to 36 hours on occasions.

My current boat is a heavy displacement Motor Sailor that I have had for 7 years. It took a bit of getting used to compared to my outright sailing boats but its just so practical for coastal cruising.
