If It Floats It's A Boat

Cartoon 8

How It Works

How it Works for a Boat Owner wanting a Buddy.

A boat owner can advertise for a Boat Buddy on this site, it is free. He can include details of his boat, location etc. and stipulate his requirements, which should be broadly in accordance with one of our two schemes or a combination of both. He will only be contacted by registered boat buddys, by email or telephone as requested.

Following the initial contact both parties may wish to meet for further discussion, perhaps on the boat. The object of the meeting is to establish a level of trust and understanding of each other. For example the boat owner may wish to establish the level of skill of the Boat Buddy regarding planned maintenance or his competence in boat handling, which may involve taking the boat out. A second meeting may be required, or perhaps one or other parties decides it not for them.

If both parties are happy with the arrangement, it is recommended that a written agreement is entered into. The main purpose of this is to prevent misunderstandings. It is not intended to be a formal contract, but a memorandum of understanding between two friends.

As a Boat Buddy myself I can assure boat owners that from a Buddy’s perspective the arrangement is too good to risk upsetting the Boat Owner. I treat the boat better than if it were mine.

Following the initial contact both parties may wish to meet for further discussion, perhaps on the boat. The object of the meeting is to establish a level of trust and understanding of each other. For example the boat buddy may need to assure the boat owner that he has the necessary skills and commitment to enter into an agreement. He may need to demonstrate his competence in boat handling, which may involve taking the boat out. A second meeting may be required, or perhaps one or other parties decides it is not for them.

If both parties are happy with the arrangement, it is recommended that a written agreement is entered into. The main purpose of this is to prevent misunderstandings. Of course would be Boat Buddys and Owners can read advertisements without advertising themselves and should they wish to respond, they will need to register.

Of course we at Boat Buddy Control Tower would like everyone to register, it’s only £35 for the year, as we would like to develop the Boat Buddy concept further and spread the word.

Let’s get those boats out.
